The exhibition theme, ‘Beginnings and Endings’, provokes thoughts about life and its customary progression from birth (beginnings) till death (endings). However, it is its complexities that allow us to experience a myriad of ‘beginnings’ and ‘endings’ throughout our existence. There are many births of new chapters, new stories and new adventures as we age and each of these come to a natural death.

The collection, "PLAY" explores the juxtaposition between childhood and adulthood. At these crossroads, lie a ‘sweet spot’ – a period of transition in which, on one hand, we long to grow up and have new adult-like experiences and give our childhood the kiss of death. On the other we frown at the birth of this new chapter, having to navigate the mundanity of adulthood while trying to have fun, appease and keep our inner child alive.

I WANNA BE LIKE YOU

The first painting illustrates a child playing dress up in adult clothing, longing to be perceived as a grownup.

ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKES JACK A DULL BOY

The second painting anchors the notion of adults creating fun amidst the dullness of a working life by making fun out of day-to-day activities.

LAST ONE ON THE TRAIN IS A ROTTEN EGG

The final painting demonstrates how the hustle and bustle of morning work rush hour has connotations of playground races.
